Who? Me?

“But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty.”
1 Corinthians 1:27

I'm glad God has chosen me for ministry. The sad thing about that is some people think "God can't use me in ministry". They think their past, failures, mistakes, etc. exclude them and God can use only the "perfect" or "holy" people. I've got news for you - great news! God wants to use you in ministry.

The people God chooses to do His work are plain, simple folks. All you have to do is look at the twelve men Jesus chose to be His disciples. Fishermen, a tax collector, a “zealot.” What a bunch of misfits! But they ended up “turning the world upside down.” Once in Acts 4:13 the people said about the disciples: “Why, these are ignorant and unlearned men!” (Acts 4:13).

Maybe you didn’t make the “Who’s Who,” or worse still, you made the “Who’s Not”! That’s all right. God has a plan for you. God knows what He is doing. He turns the table on the world’s idea of success. Wealth, fame, acclaim none of these are necessary for you to be used of God.

What God is looking for is humble, ordinary people who don't depend on their abilities or accomplishments to achieve success. He's looking for people who know their limitations and that a faith in Christ is the only way to do ministry. If you've had a rough past or even one filled with sin, Christ can set you free from that and give you purpose and a place in ministry if you'll just ask Him.

The bible says he chooses(which means selects, hand picks, singles out, desires, etc.) the foolish (which means ordinary, not expected, common, etc.) things/people of this world. He chooses the weak (in the world's eyes) things over the strong (which is weak in God's eyes).

God has chosen you. After all, he made you. Stop thinking you don't matter or can't make a difference. Repeat after me, "God chose me." Now, walk in that. Grow in it and allow God to flow through you and use you for the minsitry He so desires you to do.

What a glorious truth for you to share with someone today who may be feeling like they’re not worth much. Ask God to lead you to that someone right now.

  1. You are sounding pretty reformed here. Have you finally embraced the tenants of Calvinism? :)
